Season-opening Disaster – where to from here?

So we kick off the season with a piss poor performance in the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham, where Reina’s saves and Gerrard’s penalty kept the scoreline respectable. Where do we go from here? I’m hoping that this will be a wake-up call to the players that pre-season is over – it’s time to hit the ground running!

Forget about the fact that we’ve lost 2 key players in Arbeloa and Alonso – or that we don’t have the transfer budget to bring in the big names. Let’s stop whining and roll with the punches.

The campaign is a long one, and if the first day performances bear any measure to the season ahead – the big teams will face a torrid time from the so-called “lesser” teams. Tottenham have proven their quality, Hull were seconds away from a draw against Chelsea, while the Mancs barely stroked past Birmingham.

The plus point is, we can only go up from here. Personally I don’t mind this defeat if we can nail 3 points at Stoke City this Wednesday. Better than if we had drawn both games!
